For bettering our health condition, it becomes mandatory to maintain the pace of what is good food and what is bad food for our health. In order to maintain good cholesterol level, low cholesterol lunch ideas are very important as low cholesterol food decreases the growth of L D L, triglycerides, and increases the good H D L cholesterol, that helps to get rid of some cardiovascular diseases, stroke, and heart attack. Low cholesterol can be maintained by having a serving that contains 60 mg of cholesterol or less. Cholesterol is nothing but a waxy fat that is produced by our body in order to nourish body cells and produce tissues and hormones to the body. Our body produces the majority of cholesterol and the rest is obtained from the food that we eat. So a low cholesterol diet rich in unsaturated fats like wheat, barley, vegetables, salads, etc can help to reduce the extra fat or unhealthy cholesterol levels, which often causes some risk factors like blood pressure, diabetes, and some heart disease.

Some low cholesterol lunch ideas may include food items like grilled fish, low cholesterol items, and inclusion of salads.

Grilled fish
In lunch fish items could be a very good option as they are lean, full of protein, and most of all heart healthy. They can be consumed at least two servings in a week. They are found to lower the cholesterol levels especially the L D L or bad cholesterol. Fish oils have omega 3 fatty acids in them. Omega 3 fatty acids are nothing but monounsaturated fats, found in some cold water fish oils like tuna, salmon, sardines, cod, etc, which are always known to reduce the risk factor of heart disease and maintain a good cholesterol level. In order to ensure the content of low cholesterol in these cold water fishes it is advised to steam, bake, boil, or grill them in some unsaturated oils like olive oil, sunflower oil, soy oil, etc.

Low cholesterol items
Chickens or poultry are good source of protein, iron, and vitamin B but should be consumed without skin or the white meat of these items. These chicken items without the skin contain low cholesterol level as compared to those having the skin. On the other hand whole grain bread should be consumed in place of white bread or buns as they tend to decrease the cholesterol level by a greater percentage. Some vegetables having low cholesterol like broccoli, lettuce, onion, and fresh fruits really decrease the L D L level.

Inclusion of salads
Salads used along with other food items in more quantity at the time of lunch provide numerous nutritional benefits. Some cholesterol free salads may include tomatoes, carrots, apples, leafy greens, and some sort of fresh fruits. These salads act as fiber to the body and absorb the cholesterol from the blood stream and excrete it out of the body. So it is always advised, in order to have low cholesterol lunch ideas, to have a more quantity of salad in the diet.

Doctors generally prescribe red yeast rice to lower cholesterol significantly. Red yeast rice is nothing but an ancient Chinese remedy which are used from traditional times to lower cholesterol. This red yeast rice is always welcomed by the people and is prescribed by the doctors because it is naturally occurring substance and has no side effects. This rice is found in different brands and is sometimes mixed with different ingredients as a result it could dangerous for some people to digest. Red yeast rice is nothing but extract from rice and is fermented with monascus purpureus, a type of yeast. Previously it was used in china as an ancient naturally occurring medicine. The several ingredients found in red yeast rice like monacolins, sterols, isoflavones, omega 3 fatty acids and monounsaturated fats are used to decrease the cholesterol levels in a patient.

Why Do People Take Red Yeast Rice?
There are several studies done which shows some evidence that red yeast rice significantly helps to decrease the total cholesterol and low density lipoprotein respectively. Monocolin k is an ingredient which is alike as the drug meyacor or lovastatin, which decreases the L D L or bad cholesterol. But it is not as effective as statins drugs, which is very effective conventional drug but is suitable for the people who have some problem in consuming or digesting these drugs. This red yeast rice not only helps to lower the cholesterol level but also it has some properties to eradicate some swelling, increases digestion, and also in treating some wounds, cuts, cancer, etc.

Dosage of red yeast rice to lower cholesterol
A general dosage of 1200 mg of red yeast rice in the form of capsules is given to the patients but patients living in Asian countries have this item in their food and are required to have only 50 grams. One should take at least 3 grams of red yeast rice daily to reduce their L D L level as far as by 20 percent and total cholesterol by 15 percent within a time span of few weeks. The results of lowering L D L level may vary from person to person depending on their physical condition and lifestyle. But using for long time have a healthy effect on every people.

Red yeast rice is both a drug and supplement
Yes, red yeast rice is treated as both drug and supplement as because of presence of monacolin K, which is known as lovastatin, a family member of mevacor drug. Some doctors says it is a supplement as it has the traditional remedy to lower the cholesterol level where as others say that it is a drug as it has the ingredient lovastatin. What so ever may be the case, we should not bother about it. We need something to lower our cholesterol level and red yeast rice actually works in doing so without any fatal side effects. So, red yeast rice to lower cholesterol should be a good option for us.

How to calculate L D L cholesterol? It has some unique steps to cover. Cholesterol is a fatty substance that is found in our blood and is produced by the body to nourish the body cells. It is composed of total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein (L D L) cholesterol, high density lipoprotein (H D L) cholesterol, and triglycerides. L D L is also called bad cholesterol and it causes the formation of plaques that can narrow the blood vessels and can lead to different cardiovascular diseases, heart attack, and stroke. H D L cholesterol is called good cholesterol as it minimizes the growth of cholesterol and L D L level. Triglycerides are also a type of fat and if it increases, it grows the level of total cholesterol. Blood test called lipid profile is done in order to know these cholesterol components in the blood of a person and from this lipid profile one can calculate their L D L level.

The procedure to how to calculate L D L cholesterol level needs little process to be followed. At first you need to get your lipid profile done in a lab with the help of a doctor in order to get the counts of L D L, H D L, and triglycerides. These three levels are required for the calculation of L D L. For calculating, triglycerides are very important as because calculation of L D L is done on the basis of this level. This calculation can be done only if triglycerides level is below 400 mg/dl. Note your triglycerides level in the calculator or notebook and then divide it by 5. Then add your H D L count to the result after dividing and after obtaining a result subtract it from the total cholesterol level that was found in the lipid profile. The obtained result is your calculated L D L cholesterol. If in this calculation you find your L D L level above 190 mg/dl, then you are more prone to some cardiovascular disease, stroke, etc. It is readily advised to maintain your bad cholesterol level below 100 mg/dl to avoid these risk factors. This calculation is very expensive and time consuming, as this calculation needed to done accurately. The simple formula of Friedewald is as follows: L D L = total cholesterol – H D L – (Triglycerides/5). Here mg/dl refers to milligrams per deciliter.

Using the Friedwald calculation an example can be shown to calculate L D L level in a blood. Suppose one patient’s total cholesterol is 150 mg/dl, H D L is 50 mg/dl; triglyceride is 90 mg/dl. Your L D L calculation will be 150 mg/dl – 50 mg/dl – (90 mg/dl/5). The L D L level that is the calculated level of the person will be 82 mg/dl.

As we know L D L level is very important to know to determine the level of risk. As per counts L D L level below 100 mg/dl is considered normal. Level between 100 mg/dl to 129 mg/dl is near optimal, between 130 mg/dl to 159 mg/dl is borderline high, between 160 mg/dl to 169 mg/dl is high, and above 190 mg/dl is considered very high and this level may be the cause of several heart diseases.

Patients who are prescribed to have medication like niacin by their doctor should know how much niacin to lower cholesterol is required by them. Niacin or Nicotine acid is nothing but vitamin B, which is prescribed by the doctor, to the patient who has high cholesterol level, to turn the carbohydrate consumed by the patient into energy. Niacin not only lowers the L D L level and increases H D L level but also helps a patient to keep their digestive system, nervous system, hair, eyes, and skin in healthy condition. This vitamin is consumed by people in their daily diet. When vitamin supply is not sufficient, your doctor may prescribe this drug as a part of daily multivitamin and this niacin comes under some brand names of Niaspan and Niacor. These drugs are used to increase the H D L level in a patient. Niacin is generally found in the local counters but it is advised not to take niacin from these counters until and unless your doctor prescribes it as because they come in high doses and they may cause several fatal side effects.

Dosage
Generally doctors provide different dosage of niacin to different person by devouring the condition of the patient’s health or their cholesterol level. One can get surety of getting lower dosage in the inception of the treatment so as to get accustomed with the drug. A doctor in the inception of the treatment may provide a patient with 50 gm of niacin and that is also in the form of tablets for at least two to three times per day. If a patient shows a good tolerance initially then doctor may increase the dosage from 50 gm to 100 gm and that too for three times per day. This dosage may become as high as 1000 mg, if a patient doesn’t show any malfunction like liver toxicity or certain in glucose increase in the blood. On the other hand some supplement vitamins should also be taken to improve the immune system of a patient.

Niacin has also Vitamin B3 in them which help to lower L D L cholesterol and increase H D L cholesterol. Through some research it has been found that niacin helps to lower L D L cholesterol and triglycerides cholesterol level by 12 percent and 25 percent respectively. On the other hand it has also a good impact on the good cholesterol H D L. It increases it by 20 percent to 30 percent. The limit of niacin doesn’t ends here; it also benefits a patient by lowering the other risk factors like atherosclerosis, lipoprotein A, etc.

Side effects of niacin
As using niacin has several benefits, it has also side effects too. Using high dosage of niacin can cause high blood pressure, nausea, diarrhea, gout, indigestion, ulcers, type 2 diabetes, etc. Mostly importantly it causes skin flushing which may result in widening of arteries and blood vessels. Due to these serious side effects niacin should not be used without the prescription of a doctor, to lower high cholesterol level. Thus how much niacin to lower cholesterol should be determined by your doctor?

Cholesterol ratio is a numerical assistance in laboratory condition where it can be gauged by dividing total cholesterol by the high density lipoprotein level H D L. The data is normally used to predict heart disease and risk associated with cardiac issue. Cholesterol ratio that is total cholesterol divided by H D L should normally be within 5. Cholesterol ratio can also be fetched by dividing L D L/H D L, it can also approximately predict the risk factor involved. In and around 3.5 is diagnosed as the optimal level. This mode of obtaining cholesterol ratio is calculating the ratio over L D L to H D L.

The most demanding question about the cholesterol ratio is, what is the correct ratio for a person? Any person who has diagnosed and measured his/her cholesterol level can consult with their physician to know about it in details. It can be very beneficial to keep a controlled level of cholesterol. Once a person knows about the right ratio of their cholesterol level, he/she can adjust accordingly, either by consuming healthy diet and living a controlled lifestyle. Basically one need to exercise, take balanced and proportionate diet to maintain a good healthy cholesterol ratio. L D L (low density lipoprotein) is considered as a bad cholesterol, lowering the number is always helpful, H D L (high density lipoprotein) is good cholesterol, increasing the H D L cholesterol level is considered good which particularly lower the cardio vascular related risk.

Mainly L D L level is the main criteria for the treatment, its guide precisely to monitor health problems, and beneficial for the treatment purpose. Cholesterol ratio is used as information, which is quite eventful to monitor risk of heart disease. Cholesterol ratio is just an indication, but it is not a parameter for any treatment. It can relate as an early warning signal, if it is restricted within the permissible limit then chances of reducing heart problems is very high.

Numbers are important; monitoring the level is effective when it boil down to the fact where aggressive treatment is necessary. Treatment for controlling the cholesterol level all depends upon to the cholesterol ratio, not any specific but all, like, H D L, L D L and triglycerides level. If the H D L level (good cholesterol) take a dip and parallelly the L D L level increases the chances of getting a heart disease is substantially high.

A balanced diet which is rich in fiber, vitamin C, omega 3 fatty acids is essential. Inclusion of fruits, whole grains, green vegetables and nuts in the diet is good. Avoiding of saturated and transfat food, high protein diet can decrease the possibilities of gaining high cholesterol level. Apart from the food, one should focus on the physical aspect also. Regular exercise, maintaining a good lifestyle, avoiding tobacco and alcohol consumption can also benefit. A full half an hour intense physical activity increases the heart capability that reduces the cardio related problem immensely. A period check might solve some problems as a person can be more familiar with the cholesterol level and cholesterol ratio.

Knowing about the facts of Cholesterol it can be well answered to the question “how do you get high cholesterol”. Cholesterol is a waxy like substance that is produced by the liver in order to nourish the cell membranes of our body. This cholesterol is then transported through the blood to different parts of the body. The majority of the cholesterol is produced by the body and the rest is consumed by the food that we eat. The level of high cholesterol depends upon the quantity that we consume. If we consume more it leads to rise in cholesterol which is termed as high cholesterol level. There are two types of cholesterol found in the blood test called lipid profile and they are low density lipoprotein (L D L) or bad protein and high density lipoprotein (H D L) or good protein. If a person suffering from high cholesterol level his L MD L increases and his H D L decreases and leads him to some risk factors like cardiovascular disease, heart attack, and stroke.

Blood cholesterol levels vary throughout the world. There are few factors like geographic factor and lifestyle factors that that causes the difference level in them. People generally living in eastern Asia like Japan, Indonesia, Korea, etc have low cholesterol levels and people living in middle Asia and the Europeans have higher cholesterol levels. So people who are living in higher cholesterol zones have higher risk of getting heart diseases. Some unavoidable factors like age, gender, and heredity could not be controlled.

Causes of high cholesterol
There are several factors that cause high cholesterol level in a patient. Some are unavoidable like heredity, age, and sex, where as some are avoidable like unhealthy diet, weight, lack of physical exercise, use of alcohol and smoking, and stress.

Unavoidable causes of high cholesterol

Heredity- Some genes inherited from your ancestors plays a vital role in increasing cholesterol level. Hypercholesterolemia is a condition that causes high cholesterol from generation to generation and it contributes in increasing the L D L level of a patient.

Age- Age is also an unavoidable factor. As we grow older it is natural to have increased in cholesterol level. Generally both the sections of the society that is men and women after the age of 50 years tends to increase their cholesterol level.

Sex- Men are more affected than women in their young age but women after menopause tents to increase their cholesterol level in greater ratio as because after menopause they decrease in estrogen, a sex hormone that used to maintain their H D l level in menstrual period.

Avoidable causes of high cholesterol
Unhealthy diet- Some unhealthy diet like saturated fats consumed by us can cause high cholesterol level. So it is advised to have monounsaturated fats found in plants like olive oil, fish oil, vegetable, fresh fruits, etc.

Weight- Over weight generally tends to increase the L D L level. So it becomes necessary to maintain a healthy weight according to your height and age.

Lack of physical exercise- People who doesn’t exercise seem to increase their L D L level and decrease H D L level. But regular exercise can help to maintain the cholesterol level.

Use of alcohol and smoking- Both alcohol and smoking increases the L D L level. So one must quit smoking and stop the consumption of alcohol. Though some research has shown that alcohol increases H D L but on the other hand it also increases the bad protein L D L.

Stress- Stress plays a vital role in increasing the cholesterol level. So people having stress should do some mind and body therapy to lower the stress.

Can high cholesterol cause dizziness? The answer to this question is yes. A person suffering from high cholesterol, often complain of dizziness, which is one of the most prevalent symptoms that will lead a patient to visit a doctor. Different people have different meaning to the term dizziness. They can’t categorize the feeling of dizziness whether it is lightheadedness or the feeling of weakness or the sensation of vertigo. Cholesterol is a waxy fat that nourishes the body cells and is produced by the body. High cholesterol or excess of cholesterol in the body makes the arteries hard and as a result blood supply to the different body parts decreases. If blood supply to the brain decreases, it often causes dizziness or light headedness. Vertigo is a condition which is caused by the imbalance of inner ear and the brain. So you must understand these problems before complaining to your doctor so that he could well treat your ailment.

Diagnosing dizziness
Diagnosing of dizziness becomes very important as doctors often get confused whether a patient is suffering from dizziness or vertigo. Once the problem is sorted out the treatment starts. Doctors often go through the history and physical examination of a patient. Doctors in order to get confirmation may ask few things like “does the problem change by changing the position” or “does the problem solves by changing in the posture like by sitting or standing”. They may also interrogate about some related symptoms like chest pain, vomiting, sweating, fever, or some sort of abnormal bleeding. They may also ask for the past medical history like the types of drugs consumed by the patient, then goes the physical examination of the patient, such as, examining some symptoms, physical examination, blood tests and some sort of X-rays.

Symptoms or vital signs- Generally orthostatic or postural vital signs are taken to indicate the fluid status of a patient and this is done by taking blood pressure and pulse rate by lying down and by standing the patient respectively. Patients who are dehydrated or are bleeding may show a rise in vital signs after changing the positions. But the increase in pulse rate will not show in the vital signs if the patient is consuming the drug called beta blockers.

If a women having heavy menstrual period, she may be examined for her pelvic.

Blood tests- Some blood tests like blood sugar test, complete blood count test, test for kidney, test of electrolytes may be asked by the doctors in order to know the actual cause of dizziness in the patient.
X-rays- Some X-rays like M R I or C T scan may also be asked by the doctors to the patient.

Treatment of dizziness
Dizziness cannot be treated as a disease as because it is a symptom. Due to dizziness, the cause of vomiting and diarrhea could be treated by intravenous fluids and some drugs whereas causes like heart and breathing problem may be treated by admitting the patient to a hospital under specialized treatment.

Are scallops high in cholesterol? The answer to this question could be well known by knowing the facts about scallops. Scallops are nothing but high protein food which has low calorie content. Not only that they too have low fat and carbohydrate in them. In a research it was proved that an A3-oz serving gives as more as 10 g protein, near about 1 g fat, 3 g carbohydrate, and only 70 calorie in total. So scallops can be well used in meals to avoid high cholesterol level. A person generally tends to enjoy the soft fleshy and the sweet flavor of this sea food scallops. Sea scallops and bay scallops are found in winter season that is from October to march, while calico are found from December to March. Some scallops like that of sea and frozen scallops are found throughout the year. Cholesterol is a waxy like substance that is produced by the body in majority and the rest is transported from outside that is from animal or plant fats. Cholesterol is required by the body in order to nourish the cell membranes and produce some hormones. But intake of extra fat results in accumulation in the arteries and as a result it increases some risk of heart disease, stroke, and heart attack.

Recommendations
The American Heart Association analyzes that intake of 300 mg cholesterol from outsource is enough for a normal person. If a person has high cholesterol level he or she should intake less than 200 mg of cholesterol per day in order to lower the risk of heart diseases. In order to know your cholesterol level some blood test called lipid profile is done by the doctors. This lipid profile helps to know your cholesterol level and also the levels of other fats in your body which sometimes shows your risk of heart disease. Using scallops in your diet can have several health benefits as it contains a variety of nutrients, which in turn promotes your cardiovascular health and also from several cancers.

Scallops for Better Cardiovascular Health
Scallops are good source of nutrients like vitamin B12, omega 3 fatty acids, and some minerals like magnesium and potassium. The vitamin B12 present in scallops helps the body to convert a chemical called homocysterine, that is known to damage the blood vessel walls, into some good and healthy chemicals. Not only that scallops also helps a patient who have increased risk of some disease like diabetes, heart attack, stroke, and atherosclerosis. So in order to get rid of these diseases it becomes very important to include scallops in our diet. Women should consume more percentage of scallops as they lack vitamin B12 as compared to men. It has been estimated that one ounce of scallops contains nearly 9 percent of value of vitamin B12. Scallops also contain omega 3 fatty acids, potassium and magnesium in them. These nutrients help in cardiovascular disease. Omega 3 fatty acids help the blood to purify from clots. Magnesium improves the blood flow and helps to relax it while potassium helps to maintain a healthy blood pressure.

Patients having high cholesterol level should avoid some food in order to control this level and avoid certain diseases like coronary heart disease (C H D) and coronary microvascular disease (C M D). Our body produces maximum amount of cholesterol and the minimum which is required, is consumed from outsource. But following some food item which has saturated fats may lead to increase in the cholesterol level. So we must consume those unsaturated foods to avoid high cholesterol level. These unsaturated foods may decrease the low density lipoprotein or bad protein and may increase the high density lipoprotein or good fats.

Some high cholesterol food
Food that contains animal fat like red meat should be avoided as unsaturated fat comes from animals. Fruits and vegetables do not contain saturated fat and should be replaced by those saturated fats. Some whole milk dairy products like cream, butter, cheese, butter should be avoided as they have high content of saturated fat.

Some food that should be included

Oatmeal, oat bran and high-fiber foods- Oatmeal contains soluble fiber, that helps in decreasing low-density lipoprotein (L D L). Some other source of soluble fiber is found in some foods like kidney beans, apples, pears, barley, etc.

Fish and omega-3 fatty acids- Eating some fatty fish and omega 3 fatty acids can be beneficial to heart. Omega 3 fatty acids are found in some cold water fish oils like salmon, herrings, tuna, etc

Cholesterol are common lipids, it’s a molecule that occur naturally in our body. The common sources of Cholesterol are either endogenously or exogenously, means manufactured within the human body or found in foods that we mainly consume. Liver manufactures cholesterol, not only human beings but it is secreted within all warm blooded creatures. Cholesterol is necessary for most animals to sustain, humans are no exception. Cholesterol is not a demon in the body, we all want cholesterol to sustain. But if cholesterol surpasses the permitted level it can cause harm to our body. Cholesterol is found in two types L D L and H D L. L D L stands for (low density lipoprotein) and H D L is (high density lipoprotein). Our liver manufactures cholesterol nearly 1000 to 1500 mg per day.

Cholesterol have certain limits with which our body remains satisfied, too much of it can be termed as high cholesterol. Now the real question, is high cholesterol really bad? The simple answer is yes it is. Elevated cholesterol level can cause heart disease; cholesterol level can be determined accurately by a simple blood test called lipoprotein test or lipoprotein profile test. It is measured by the total amount of cholesterol present in blood that means, total L DL presence, H D L, and triglycerides. Escalation in mg/dl (milligram per deciliter) of triglycerides and L D L can create plaque to build up rapidly, which may choke our arteries to cause heart attack or stroke.

L D L (LOW DENSITY LIPOPROTEIN)

L D L is termed as bad cholesterol, if found more than 100 mg/dl (milligram per deciliter) in blood sample then it is above the optimum level. Excessive L D L in blood can cause plaque formation in our blood vessel, clogging of blood vessel or narrowing might cause heart attack and even result into a stroke.

TRIGLYCERIDES FACTOR

Triglycerides are also a form of common lipid, which are molecules that also occur naturally within our body. As it is also fat component therefore it is required to check its level to maintain a healthy heart. 150 mg/dl is the normal triglycerides level, beyond which it is considered as deadly. Calories are needed to burn down, if proper activity is not performed to burn out excess fat then it can cause heart attack, might result into diabetes also. Food that contains carbohydrates is the prime source of it.

CHOLESTEROL CONTROL AND MONITORING

To control cholesterol level in the body one should eat balanced diet. Utility of food is to remain healthy and strong on must eat nutritious food that contains good nutrients. Living a un-healthy lifestyle can result into escalation of L D L and triglycerides level. In order to maintain a good and a healthy heart one must consume lot of green vegetables, fresh fruits, good physical activity which is needed to burn out extra calorie, monitoring weight, avoid smoking and consuming large quantity of alcohol. These are all contributory factor which can make a person to avoid heart disease and live a beautiful healthy life.
